Course Description

This course delivers a background knowledge about railway track engineering. The course
comprises: an introduction for railway engineering, the associated problems, types of tracks and
construction techniques, characteristics and properties of ballast, sub-ballast, and other track
components, loading mechanisms, alignment design, modeling a track as a beam on elastic
foundation, degradation, inspection, assessment techniques, and maintenance of tracks.
